At its heart, soccer is a very simple game. Move the ball using your feet and try to get it in the opponent's goal. However, there are some areas that are confusing even to experienced soccer players.
The Laws of the Game are defined by FIFA, the world soccer governing body. Some rules are modified at younger ages and abilities. Typical adjustments include field size, number of players, length of games, substitutions and size of ball. Some of the more complex soccer laws and skills are also omitted at a young age, such as offsides and slide tackling.
In addition to the basic rules, each referee keeps in mind the concept of "advantage". In any situation, the referee may decide to not call a particular foul because the team that was fouled actually gained an "advantage" due to the offense. In this case the referee will signal that play should continue.
In this section we'll attempt to cover some of the more common questions that arise during typical play. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
