Macon County Soccer Academy holding Spring 2017 Evaluations on Sunday, November 6th

The Macon County Soccer Academy will hold evaluations for the Spring 2017 season on Sunday, November 6th at 2:00pm, at the Industrial Park fields. We are seeking boys and girls born in 2007 and 2008 to join our Academy program. For players born in 2009, we will continue our partner program in the spring - the "Black Stars", which gives younger rec players some advanced training and a game or two with regional opponents.

The cost for spring season is $135. A $25 deposit is due at the evaluation session. Parents should email the Academy Director to RSVP for the evaluation session. For more information, see our Academy page.

We have received a number of emails with questions about Academy soccer and the evaluation session.

We are not conducting "try-outs" in the traditional sense. We are looking for potential. Our measure of success is the degree of improvement after a season or two. We want players who enjoy the challenge of learning a new skill, who are willing to listen and to work at improving, and who have fun playing soccer.

Academy soccer is a development league. That means that we actively seek to improve the skills of individual players, and challenge them to learn and improve. We focus on basic technical skills, but we also teach tactical matters too. We keep it fun with drills and games that incorporate the themes we are focusing on. Our teams play at a higher level than rec teams - and we are always seeking opponents that challenge us to improve. We have five coaches, and most of us have completed advanced coaches training.

At the moment we have a boys team and girls team, and we are seeking to add several more players. We play home and away games against regional clubs, including clubs in Murphy, Waynesville, Asheville, Clarkesville, GA, among others. In the spring we will end our season with an overnight tournament, most likely in the Atlanta area.

Typically, an Academy team prepares players for higher levels of play. At the ages that we coach, our players will be well prepared to play on middle school and high school teams, as wells as WNC United, if they choose that route.

We continue to meet for training during the winter months. We will come out for games and training at least once per month during November-Feb, then begin meeting more frequently to prepare for the spring season. We generally have our first spring games in late March / early April. We will have 8 or so play dates during the season.

If you are interested in joining our program, come out this Sunday, fill out the application papers and leave a $25 deposit. You can join us for training in November and December to decide if you want to join. We want to make sure that everyone sees a good fit before you make a commitment. Please contact us if you have further questions - and to RSVP for the evaluation day.
